Vintage Steakhouse - Kalamaki (Zante)

G and I enjoy visiting the beautiful island of Zakynthos (Zante) in the off peak season - it is quieter, the weather is still beautiful and it is of course a lot cheaper!
We visited in March 2024 for carnival, staying in an apartment in Zante Town. We were actually on the island for Mothers Day that year and after visiting a few restaurants in Town, we decided to head to Vintage in Kalamaki as they were open on Mothers Day.

We have eaten here on numerous occasions over the years whilst on holiday in Kalamaki and when visiting again this March, we again decided to take a taxi across to Kalamaki to experience the hospitality and wonderful food that Vintage has to offer.

We opted for a calamari starter and were also given some bread, olives, tzatziki and some tomatoes as a free appetizer. All very delicious. For our mains we both chose the sirloin steak; G’s was medium and mine medium to well done and both were beautifully tender and melt in the mouth. These were served with a beautiful dressed salad and amazing chips. Reasonably priced at 22euros for a steak meal, you really can’t go wrong.

As we were heading out to a bar after dinner we stuck to soft drinks and our bill came to 76euros in total.

At the end of our meal we were given a free baklava with ice cream which again was really lovely.

The restaurant is run by a really friendly husband and wife who always make you feel welcome. As we were visiting out of the main season the restaurant was fairly quiet and there were a few locals out for a bite to eat. I did see that the staff took time to sit and chat to everyone whilst their food was being freshly prepared.

If you visit here do not expect it to be fast - they pride themselves on giving you freshly cooked food so although you may wait 20 mins for your meal, it is cooked to order, fresh and piping hot.

It’s always strange to visit in March as this is literally the only restaurant open on the whole Kalamaki strip, plus maybe one or two bars, again full of locals. It does prove though that the food here is good enough to warrant a taxi over from Zante Town.

Would I visit again? Absolutely yes! We will be going back again in July when we are visiting the island, this time staying in Kalamaki itself. The food here is superb and although you really are spoilt for choice in Kalamaki for restaurants, this one is up there with the best of them.

One thing we did notice was that some of the restaurants in Zante Town, although giving you their full menu to choose from, did often not have all of the items on the menu available for you to eat. This was a bit annoying. At Vintage they have their special ‘out of season / low season’ menu so you know that everything on there is available for you to order. It seems such a simple idea but we were surprised by how many restaurants simply give you their full menu and then tell you that what you want is unavailable!

So, wherever you eat in Kalamaki, do give the Vintage Steakhouse a try - you will not be disappointed.

See you soon
