When in Dublin, and specifically in Temple Bar, the Old Mill Restaurant is a must for good old fashioned Irish fayre. I think we’ve visited here each time we have stayed in Dublin! It is very very small and located in the upstairs space. I was practically elbow to elbow with the two men next to us… infact i think i’ve sat further away to my date on a date night than I sat with them LOL.
But dont let this put you off. This is a great traditionally irish restaurant with a real community feel.

The food is delicious. I had the irish stew in here as I remembered just how good it was all the years before when i had it. I also shared a baileys cheesecake with my friend and we both thoroughly enjoyed that too! Main meals are generally priced at around the 20-25euro mark and portions are MASSIVE!
Beware - the wine is priced by the bottle but I was given the option to have just a glass… but of course we got the bottle. I will say, if you like a mild dry, fresh and slightly sweet wine, their VinaSol was delicious… and happened to be the cheapest option on the menu at only €28 for the bottle. This done, the two of us had 3 glasses each. So for 14 euros for 3 glasses of wine per person, this was definitely a much better option than purchasing wine at Temple Bar. We decided to use this tactic on our second night, and ordered two bottles of wine at our dinner and then stuck to just your standard beer, or mixers at the bars. A much more cost effective tactic. Of course if I came back with mama I would probably skip the wine all together and have an equal amount of fun on a coke zero!

The staff were super friendly too. We had a lot of conversations with a few of them. Super friendly, funny and lovely guys. We even made friends with one of them when he saw my vlogging camera out and he subscribed to my channel the same night (it means the world!).
I probably wouldnt recommend this place if you are travelling as a big group, because like I said, the seating areas are very small and chances are, without booking, you would wait hours for all the tables to be empty to be available for you. However, for a group of up to 4 you shouldnt have any problems. This time, as there was just two of us, they split a 4 person table and we were sat down straight away. When i visted with my parents the first time and we were a group of 3, we did have a short wait, but they offer you a drink from the bar whilst waiting and get you seated as soon as possible. You cant exactly expect a empty restaurant when you are eating directly opposite the Temple Bar!!!
It has a very similar, if not the same menu as the Quays restaraunt which is located next door. So if The Old Mill is packed out, you can pop next door for a very similar experience.
So, would I visit again? Definitely! There are lots of food options of course but do try their Irish Stew and the Bailey’s Cheesecake, perhaps finishing off with an Irish coffee or two !
