So G and I visited Athens in March 2025, this being our third visit to this vibrant city. We stayed around a 10 minute walk from Monistiraki Square so were very central for all that Athens has to offer.
We decided to visit Greek House Attikos as it offered an unobscured view of the Acropolis, and had a nice menu. We booked our table for 9.15 as even though we were visiting on a Wednesday evening in mid March, it was almost fully booked.
It’s worth noting that it was quite a walk up hill to the restaurant - we pretty much followed the same route we had taken earlier in the day when we visited the Parthenon, walking up to the top of the Acropolis. I myself was not expecting to have to do the climb twice in one day but it certainly made me work up an appetite !
On arrival we were shown to a table and given the menu - they gave us the wine menu and a food menu and the Manager introduced himself to us together with our server for the evening.
G ordered a glass of wine and I stuck to my usual Diet Coke with some water for the table.
We started with some bread and olives which arrived in a bread basket with three types of bread, a small dish of oil and some olives. We both enjoyed the tasty breads, however the oil to bread ratio was a little lacking - to run out of olive oil in Greece is something of a crime!
We also ordered feta cheese (baked in the oven and served with fig jam) and an eggplant dish baked again in tomato sauce with more feta. Starters are priced at around 7-8euros each, with the bread and olives costing around 2euros per head.
For our main course G opted for spaghetti with beef in a rich tomato sauce; I opted (mistakenly) for the pork schnitzel. G reported her dish to be huge and delicious; mine on the other hand although served with a tomato ‘jam’ and fried potatoes tasted ….. well like cardboard and my fries were waffle fries, but really thin and oily. Unfortunately for me I was served THREE pork schnitzels and could only manage to eat one which looked very rude but they were not pleasant. I guess it serves me right for not choosing a Greek dish!
We declined desert and coffee on this occasion, although the menu does contain Greek classics like orange pie and baklava.
Our bill came to 85euros.
G would definitely recommend a visit to Attikos as it had the feel of a taverna on one of the islands and the Greek food was tasty and plentiful, however I myself would just recommend that you DO order the Greek food and stay away from the schnitzel and maybe the burger options. This is definitely not a negative review of this particular restaurant, I know that it was my choice but with hindsight I really should have ordered the lamb or the moussaka - I think my dining experience would have been a much happier one if I did!
It’s worth noting that the view from the restaurant was fabulous - looking out at the Parthenon lit up at night is something really special and for that reason alone Attikos is well worth a visit. There does seem to be an outdoor terrace where you could sit in the summer months but luckily for us on a chilly March evening we were able to sit inside and admire the view in the warm!
